The largest Keller Williams brokerage in Canada – a two-office firm with nearly 300 agents in metro Ottawa, Ontario – converted to RE/MAX on April 28.
The former Keller Williams Ottawa Realty aligned with RE/MAX Hallmark Realty Ltd., which at 625 agents and 13 offices was already one of the largest brokerages in Canada. A newly formed entity, RE/MAX Hallmark Realty Group, now comprises all 15 offices.
“With this conversion, the RE/MAX footprint has expanded, allowing us to better serve the agents, and in turn, homebuyers and sellers in the greater Ottawa market,” said Effi Barak, COO, RE/MAX INTEGRA.
Jeff and Margie Hooper, a husband-wife team who opened the KW office as the brand’s first Ontario franchise in 2001, will continue to lead the brokerage, rechristened “RE/MAX Hallmark Realty Group in Ottawa.”
“The agents are going to see the value and the benefit of RE/MAX. This really is about them,” says Jeff Hooper, Broker of Record. “We want them to improve their careers and their lives.”
The Hoopers, who have 47 years of real estate experience between them, have joined one of the RE/MAX network’s most successful, dynamic operations.
The Greater Toronto-based RE/MAX Hallmark, led by Ken McLachlan, Debra Bain and Steve Tabrizi, was the network’s sixth largest multi-office operation before the merger. The addition in Ottawa will push it even higher.
“This is an exciting step forward for us,” says McLachlan, who along with Bain received the RE/MAX Distinguished Service Award in 2012. “With the help of Jeff and Margie, we expect to see continued growth and success in the Ottawa market.”
McLachlan has known the Hoopers for many years. He says they share similar values, priorities and views on leadership – and he’s thrilled about the possibilities ahead.
“This is going to be fantastic,” says McLachlan, a 30-year member of the RE/MAX network. “We’ll do great things in Ottawa.”
Jason Pilon, the former KW brokerage’s No. 1 Team Leader, sees an abundance of competitive advantages in the move. One is that RE/MAX is far more visible than Keller Williams in Ottawa, in Ontario and in the entire country.
“This means opportunity. Market share. Networking. More training. More support. Building relationships across Canada. I think it’s all positive,” Pilon says. “RE/MAX is very well known here, and it’s going to be nice to be part of that.”
The power of the RE/MAX brand was one of many reasons Margie Hooper felt the time was right for a change.
“This is great for everyone involved because it’s moving us forward in a very progressive way,” she says. “Everybody knows RE/MAX.”
